Postdoctoral Fellow Position: Biomaterial/Mechanobiology Models of the Small Intestine

Department of Bioengineering (bioe.rice.edu), Rice University, Houston, TX in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center

Rice job posting: https://jobs.rice.edu/postings/18609

Project Description:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University.  This position will involve research in the laboratory of Dr. Jane Grande-Allen.  The goal of this project is to develop novel biomaterial-based models to investigate the mechanobiology of the small intestinal epithelium. These models will then be used to investigate the mechanisms and treatment of enteric diseases. These research projects will be performed in collaboration with clinicians and scientists from Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Rice University is an EEO/AA employer.

Qualifications:
Candidates should ideally have a PhD in bioengineering or a related field.  Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the study of endothelial/epithelial cells and/or polymer tissue engineering scaffolds, and to applicants who have received their Ph.D. within the last two years.  Experience with mechanical testing, molecular biology, microscopy, histology, and/or statistics is desirable but not essential.  Good scientific communication skills (for preparing presentations, manuscripts, and fellowship applications), enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research, and the willingness to collaborate and develop mentoring skills are required.  Consideration of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  Interested candidates should apply at the link to the job posting above and include their curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, expected date of availability, and names of three references to Dr. Grande-Allen at the contact address below.  Please include a cover letter describing career goals and motivation for postdoctoral enrichment.
