Goodbye Shannon

September 1st, 2011 by ht3

Shannon, who’s been with us for the past few months, is leaving the lab to start the real world. Your contributions, particularly your quick thinking and knowledge, your help with our contamination issues, and your friendly persona, have made every minute that you’ve been in lab enjoyable. Good luck in your future endeavors, and we hope you never forget us!

Welcome to the lab, Xing and Paul

August 16th, 2011 by ht3

The lab welcomes Xing Zhang and Paul Qu to the lab. Xing was previously at the University of California, San Diego and will be working on heart valve tissue engineering, while Paul comes to us from Texas A&M University, and he’s studying methacrylated hyaluronan for tissue engineering. We welcome the addition of these two fine scientists to the lab!

The lab welcomes Monica!

May 12th, 2011 by ht3

Monica Fahrenholtz is our newest graduate student in the lab. She transferred to Rice from UT Dental where she worked in Peter Yang’s lab on biomaterials and bone tissue engineering. We are so thankful that she ended up with us!

We salute our graduates!

There will be a lot of celebrating this weekend as Kerem Kalpakci, Nikhil Gheewala, Chris Durst, Chris Lin, Eric Kim, and Jit Nandi walk in Commencement.  Kerem, Nikhil, and Chris all got PhDs within the last year and are all headed to various aspects of the medical device industry.  Eric is earning a BS in Bioengineering and starting medical school in the fall.  Eric,  you could not have impressed us more if you tried!!  Chris is earning a BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as a BA in Architecture.  She will spend next year applying to med school and continuing to perform research.  Chris, we’ll miss your art skills and laughter!  Jit is also a new BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and going to med school in the fall.  Jit has worked in the lab for 4 years, has helped practically every single person in the lab, and will be missed more than words can express.  Congratulations to all of you!!
